Juventus have dismissed head coach Igor Tudor following an eight-match winless run across all competitions, the club confirmed on Monday.
“Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as coach of the men’s first team, along with his staff,” the club said in a statement, a day after their 1-0 loss to Lazio. Massimo Brambilla, coach of Juve’s reserve side, will take temporary charge.
Tudor, who replaced Thiago Motta in March, was Juventus’s first foreign manager since Didier Deschamps in 2006–07. A former Juve defender, he spent nearly a decade at the club as a player, winning two Serie A titles and reaching a Champions League final.
Although he guided the team to a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification last season, results have sharply declined. After opening this campaign with three wins, Juventus drew five consecutive games before suffering three straight defeats to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio.
Following Sunday’s defeat, Tudor said: “We prepared for the match in the right way, but we’re still missing something. We’re all responsible for this difficult period.”
It marks the first time since 1969 that Juventus have dismissed a manager before November. The Turin club have also failed to score in their last four matches and sit eighth in Serie A, six points behind leaders Napoli ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Udinese.
