A jury led by Garrick Ohlsson has chosen 11 exceptional musicians for the last stage of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Among them, Poland’s Piotr Alexewicz carries the hopes of his home nation into the grand finale.
The classical music world eagerly awaits the performances, as the competition, founded in 1927, remains one of the most celebrated and historic piano contests. Since its beginning, it has showcased only the timeless works of Fryderyk Chopin, reaffirming his influence on generations of artists.
Finalists Represent Five Continents in Prestigious Line-Up
The selected performers include Kevin Chen (Canada), David Khrikuli (Georgia), Shiori Kuwahara (Japan), Tianyou Li (China), Eric Lu (United States), Tianyao Lyu (China), Vincent Ong (Malaysia), Miyu Shindo (Japan), Zitong Wang (China), and William Yang (United States), joining Alexewicz in the final round.
Each pianist will perform Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61, followed by a piano concerto — either E minor, Op. 11, or F minor, Op. 21 — with the National Philharmonic Orchestra under Andrzej Boreyka’s direction.
The final concerts will take place from October 18 to 20, starting each evening at 6 p.m., as audiences witness the world’s top young pianists in action.
