Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has said the club is not close to spending £100m on a single player, distancing Spurs from the approach taken by Arsenal in recent seasons.
Following the departure of Daniel Levy as chair and a leadership shake-up by the Lewis family, Spurs are aiming to grow the business and improve on-field success. However, Frank indicated that a record-breaking transfer is not imminent, with Richarlison’s £60m move in 2022 still standing as the club’s biggest signing.
Frank suggested that while heavy investment is sometimes necessary, long-term success relies more on smart recruitment and player development. He pointed to clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City as examples of teams that reached the top without relying solely on ultra-expensive signings.
He also highlighted the importance of investing in players at the right stage of their careers, citing Arsenal’s £105m signing of Declan Rice as an example of strategic spending.
Despite ruling out a £100m signing in the near future, Frank confirmed that Tottenham have received £100m in backing from the Lewis family, with further funding expected. He said the owners are committed to long-term success and expressed confidence that the club’s board will support plans to build a competitive team.
