Tesla introduced a premium Model Y version with advanced features, launching it first in China before expanding to Europe, the US, and Canada. This vehicle, Tesla’s best-seller, now offers a range of improvements.
The latest Model Y is an all-wheel-drive, long-range version, priced at $59,990 (€57,166.0) in the US. This price reflects a 25% increase compared to the older version, which costs $47,990 (€45,733.75). The updated Model Y includes Tesla’s full self-driving software as a standard feature, previously an optional $8,000 upgrade. US deliveries are scheduled to begin in March 2025.
Enhanced Features of the New Model Y
This premium Model Y introduces a more efficient exterior design, updated tyres, wheels, and suspension. The interior features upgrades like front and rear touchscreens, improved signal range, and better connectivity. With a driving range of 320 miles (515 km), this version offers greater mileage than its predecessors, along with increased storage capacity.
Tesla now provides four Model Y versions to US customers, with the latest being the most expensive. Despite being Tesla’s best-selling model, the Model Y experienced a decline in sales in 2024 due to weaker global demand for electric vehicles and competition from lower-priced Chinese alternatives.
Tesla Recalls 1.2 Million Vehicles in China
Tesla announced a recall of over 1.2 million vehicles in China due to software-related issues. The recall covers imported vehicles and those produced domestically. Affected models include the Model X, Model S, Model Y, and Model 3 manufactured between July 16, 2023, and December 14, 2024.
The problem involves a reverse current that could disrupt the vehicle computer’s main board, affecting the rearview camera and increasing accident risks. Tesla plans to fix most issues through over-the-air updates but will contact users whose vehicles require alternative solutions. This recall addresses both imported and China-manufactured vehicles, ensuring driver safety and regulatory compliance.
