Luxembourg to Launch First Pilot Operations
Global automotive manufacturer Stellantis has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese autonomous driving firm Pony.ai to build electric vans with full self-driving capability for the European market. The project will debut with pilot programs in Luxembourg, followed by wider deployment expected in 2026. The alliance merges Stellantis’ production and electric vehicle expertise with Pony.ai’s advanced automation and artificial intelligence systems.
Self-Driving Vans to Support Urban Mobility and Logistics
The collaboration focuses on integrating Pony.ai’s autonomous driving technologies—such as perception sensors, mapping, and control units—into Stellantis’ electric light commercial vehicles under brands including Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel. The goal is to create vehicles that can transport passengers and goods safely within urban environments. Early testing phases will feature trained safety operators while the technology undergoes assessment and certification under European safety regulations.
Partnership Strengthens Pony.ai’s International Ambitions
For Pony.ai, the partnership marks its first move into the European market, complementing operations already running in China and the United States. Stellantis views the collaboration as an essential step toward embedding autonomous functionality into its future lineup of electric vehicles. Both companies emphasized that compliance with European legal frameworks, strong cybersecurity protections, and strict data governance will guide all stages of development and deployment.
