Seven San Antonio police officers were injured during a standoff on Wednesday night. Six have been discharged from the hospital, and the remaining officer is expected to recover fully.

The Shooting Incident

On Wednesday at around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a call about a person in crisis. Upon arrival, the suspect, 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos, opened fire, injuring seven officers.

Poulos then barricaded himself inside an apartment for several hours. When the standoff ended, police found him dead. Investigators are working to determine whether his death was self-inflicted or caused by law enforcement.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) expressed appreciation for the officers’ bravery, stating, “Their sacrifices remind us of the risks officers take daily to protect our community.”

Poulos, a Navy veteran, had a record of violent behavior and arrests leading up to the incident. Days earlier, he was arrested three times for charges including assault and driving while intoxicated.

According to reports, Poulos assaulted two elderly individuals and dragged a 44-year-old woman by her hair during an altercation. When an 83-year-old man intervened, Poulos struck him in the face. He fled but was arrested after crashing his vehicle nearby.

Poulos faced multiple charges, including injury to an elderly person and assault causing bodily harm. Released on bond, he was ordered to avoid contact with the victims, abstain from possessing firearms, and undergo a mental health evaluation.

Poulos’ Military Service

Poulos served in the U.S. Navy for a decade, leaving in 2008. He was stationed in New Jersey, California, and Illinois, earning distinctions like the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

Officers’ Recovery and Community Support

Six officers injured during the standoff have been released from the hospital, while one remains hospitalized but is expected to recover fully.

SAPD thanked the community for its support and asked for continued prayers for the injured officers and their families. This incident highlights the dangers police face and underscores the importance of addressing mental health crises effectively.
