Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made a surprise visit to Lviv on Tuesday, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Tusk reassured Ukraine of Poland’s unwavering support in its fight against Russia.

“In difficult times, unity matters most,” Tusk said. “Poland and Ukraine stand together.”

Leading Europe: Poland Champions Ukraine’s Future

As Poland prepares to take over the EU Council presidency in January, Tusk emphasized the importance of advancing Ukraine’s European Union membership.

“Our goal is to accelerate Ukraine’s path into the EU,” Tusk declared. He also reaffirmed Poland’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s NATO ambitions while acknowledging the challenges ahead.

Tusk announced plans for increased military aid and the opening of a new border crossing to improve cooperation and logistics between the two nations.

Zelenskyy Highlights Poland’s Crucial Role

President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Poland’s consistent support since the beginning of the conflict. He emphasized the importance of Poland’s role in strengthening Ukraine’s security and advancing its NATO aspirations.

“Poland understands the importance of true security guarantees,” Zelenskyy said. “Their support makes our future more secure and stable.”

Lasting Peace: No Room for Half Measures

During the visit, Tusk discussed Poland’s efforts to promote peace initiatives during its EU presidency. Zelenskyy, however, stressed the need for a durable solution rather than a temporary ceasefire.

“A real peace must be lasting,” Zelenskyy stated. “Only unity and shared commitment from our allies can bring true security.”
