Patrick Bamford has signed a short-term deal with Sheffield United, just seven months after leading abusive chants about the club’s manager Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, who left Leeds United by mutual consent in August, joins the Championship side until January as Wilder looks to strengthen his struggling attack.
During Leeds’ promotion celebrations in April, Bamford led fans in a derogatory chant about Wilder — their long-time rival — but the pair have since made peace. Bamford and then-Leeds boss Daniel Farke called Wilder the next day to apologise.
Wilder later confirmed there were no hard feelings: “I had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all. I respected him for giving me a call. These things happen in football.”
With Sheffield United the league’s lowest scorers, Bamford — who made 18 appearances for Leeds last season — will aim to revive his career after years disrupted by injury.
