Ford Recalls Over 273,000 SUVs Over Faulty Brake Lines

Ford is recalling more than 273,000 SUVs from model years 2022 to 2024 because of a brake line defect that could cause brake fluid leaks. This problem may slow braking and increase the risk of accidents. The recall affects Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles built before November 2024.

The issue happens when the front brake line touches the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. Over time, this contact can wear the brake line, causing fluid leaks. Losing brake fluid reduces stopping power, raising the chance of crashes.

Affected Vehicles and Recall Details

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), recall number 25V-314 covers:

  • Most 2022–2024 Ford Expedition SUVs
  • About 50,000 Lincoln Navigators from the same years

Ford traced the defect to its Kentucky Truck Plant. During engine assembly, the front brake line was sometimes bent too close to the air cleaner outlet pipe. Ford fixed this production issue in November 2024 by adjusting radiator hose placement. Vehicles made before this change are at risk.

What Should Vehicle Owners Do?

Starting May 14, Ford will notify dealerships. Owners will get recall letters between May 26 and May 30. If your vehicle is included, Ford advises visiting an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer.

Technicians will inspect the front brake line. They will either replace it or adjust nearby parts at no cost. Ford also states that owners who already paid for related repairs may qualify for reimbursement.

How Ford Found the Defect

The investigation began in February 2025 after Ford saw an increase in brake system warranty claims, especially for 2022 Lincoln Navigators. The problem was reported to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group. Research between March and April 2025 linked the defect to assembly processes used before the November 2024 update.

Safety Remains a Priority

This recall highlights the importance of thorough quality control and early detection. Ford’s swift action aims to reduce accident risks and keep drivers safe.
