Trafford Centre aims to host Europe’s biggest ultra-rapid charging hub for electric vehicles.

Plans have been submitted to Trafford’s planning team to redevelop the former petrol station near Marks & Spencer. The site is located at one of the shopping centre’s main entrances.

Features of the Proposed Development

The redevelopment includes an ultra-rapid charging hub, a super-charger lounge, a car showroom, and a Starbucks Drive Thru. A digital advertising screen with a vertical “living wall” of plants is also planned.

Matthew Anderson, development director at Trafford Centre managers Pradera Lateral, confirmed the addition of 47 new 250kW ultra-rapid chargers. This will bring the total number of chargers at the site to 65. If approved, the centre could become Europe’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging hub.

Anderson stated, “We designed a scheme that complements Trafford Centre, enhances the local area, improves biodiversity, and promotes sustainable travel.”

The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that construction could begin in early 2025 if the plans are approved.
