EU Commission Launches New Advisory Board for Agri-Food Policy

The European Commission has introduced a new advisory body to bring together diverse stakeholders in the agri-food sector, aiming to address growing tensions and foster collaboration. The European Board on Agriculture and Food (EBAF) will help shape future agricultural policies, ensuring a more sustainable and competitive agri-food system.

Promoting Open Dialogue and Broader Representation

EBAF will consist of up to 30 organizations representing farmers, food supply chain actors, and NGOs. This initiative follows the Strategic Dialogue for Agriculture introduced by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen but aims to be more inclusive by allowing stakeholders to apply through an open call. The Commission’s goal is to build consensus and reduce polarization within the agri-food debate.

The board will work towards shaping the Vision for Agriculture and Food, a key policy document expected to be released in February 2025. EBAF will meet several times a year over its five-year mandate, with its first meeting scheduled soon after the final selection of members.
