Denmark’s preparations for Tuesday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Scotland have been disrupted by a sickness bug affecting players and staff. Head coach Brian Riemer confirmed that Joachim Andersen and Rasmus Højlund both missed Saturday’s surprise draw with Belarus due to illness, and a staff member has also fallen sick.
The setback comes at a tense moment in Group C: Denmark sit one point ahead of Scotland, and a draw in Glasgow will secure their automatic qualification. Scotland, beaten 3-2 by Greece, can still reach their first World Cup since 1998 with a win.
Riemer admitted concern about the illness potentially spreading but said medical staff were doing everything possible to contain it. He remains hopeful of having all 24 squad members available. “It’s the season for such things,” he said. “We’re doing everything we can … Our hope is that on Tuesday we have 24 men fit and ready.”
Scotland manager Steve Clarke urged supporters to create a positive, patient atmosphere at Hampden Park. “We need them from the first minute,” he said. “If we get that, I’m pretty sure we can do something special.”
