An electric streetcar derailed in Lisbon on Wednesday, killing at least 15 people and injuring 18 others. Portuguese television showed the yellow-and-white tram lying on its side along a narrow hill road. Its roof and sides appeared crumpled as dozens of emergency workers rushed to the scene. The accident occurred around 6 pm, at the start of the evening rush hour. Local media reported authorities have not yet determined the cause of the derailment.
President Extends Condolences
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, calling the incident tragic.
