Adobe has introduced new AI-powered updates for Creative Cloud, impacting popular programs like Photoshop and Premiere Pro. These updates will be available to all subscribers, as Adobe has no plans to offer versions without AI integration, even for users who are skeptical of the technology. “Our goal is to make our customers successful, and we think that in order for them to be successful, they need to embrace the tech,” said Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of generative AI, to The Verge.
This stance has stirred concerns among some users, especially after Adobe updated its terms of service earlier this year. The initial terms suggested that Adobe could potentially use user images to train its AI, causing backlash. Adobe later clarified that it would not use local or cloud content for AI training, but opposition to AI remains high among creatives.
Highlighting this sentiment, the anti-AI app Cara gained over 500,000 users within a week in June by focusing solely on human-created art. Cara, which functions similarly to Instagram, bans AI-generated images and labels all user-uploaded images with a “NoAI” tag to prevent them from being used for AI training.
New AI Features in Adobe’s Creative Suite
Adobe’s AI updates include the “generative fill” tool in Photoshop, which lets users select parts of an image, type in desired modifications, and add AI-generated elements, like placing a raindrop on a leaf. Premiere Pro also now includes AI tools, allowing users to extend videos, add or remove moving objects, and make seamless edits.
