Police in Évora arrested a suspect, sparking a large-scale anti-drug operation across the Alentejo region in Portugal. Authorities executed 29 coordinated search warrants in Montemor-o-Novo, Lisbon, Samora Correia, and Santarém District. The Public Security Police (PSP) targeted a widespread drug trafficking ring after an 18-month investigation. Multiple locations were raided simultaneously, leading to the dismantling of the criminal network. The operation resulted in 13 arrests — nine men and four women, aged 19 to 45. Six suspects remain in pre-trial detention as investigations continue.

Police confiscated 135,695 doses of hashish, 697 doses of cocaine, and 85 ecstasy tablets during the raids. They also recovered nearly €60,000 in cash hidden across various properties. Authorities seized five high-performance vehicles and one motorcycle linked to the trafficking network. Law enforcement also found two nitrous oxide tanks, a 6.35mm pistol, and a 12-gauge shotgun. PSP described the bust as one of the largest narcotics seizures in Alentejo in recent years. Sub-commissioner Nuno Albardeiro highlighted the success of the operation at a Friday press conference.

The PSP characterized the drug ring as highly organized and entrenched in central Portugal. Investigators traced trafficking routes and communication lines over the past year and a half. The suspects were connected to major distribution chains operating in several cities. Officials said the operation dealt a strong blow to regional drug trafficking. Law enforcement agencies plan to maintain close surveillance to prevent similar criminal networks from emerging again. PSP officers pledged to continue their efforts against organized crime in the region.
