Hamas freed three Israeli hostages on Saturday. They were in much worse shape than the ones released before. The men looked very weak and sick. This upset many people in Israel and across the world.
Hostages’ Poor Health Causes Anger
The bad health of the men has caused a lot of anger. Israeli leaders and human rights groups are worried about the hostages still in Hamas’ hands. Dr. Yael Frenkel Nir, head of Sheba General Hospital, said, “The hostages are in terrible condition. This is very worrying.” Many people have said the hostages look like Holocaust survivors.
Hamas made the men appear in public. This upset people even more. The hostages were forced to speak for Hamas. This was seen as wrong. People feel the hostages were used as tools for propaganda.
International Response
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) also spoke out. They said the hostages should not be shown in public. They called for all future releases to happen privately. The ICRC said it was a violation of the hostages’ rights.
Israeli Leaders Speak Out
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would do everything to bring the hostages home. “We will fight until every Israeli is safe,” Netanyahu said. “We will not let Hamas get away with this.”
Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon called for the United Nations to act. He asked UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to demand the release of the 73 hostages still in captivity.
Protesters Demand Change
In Tel Aviv, people protested. They want Netanyahu to take full responsibility. They want a permanent ceasefire so the hostages can come home safely. One protester said, “We need peace, and we need to keep our people safe.”
The world is paying close attention. The hostages’ treatment is a serious human rights issue. Israel must find a way to end this crisis and bring everyone home.
