New AI helps Google code

Google is heavily investing in artificial intelligence, both for internal development and broader projects, with over 25% of the company’s new code now generated by AI, according to CEO Sundar Pichai during the Q3 earnings call. Pichai noted that AI-driven code generation is enhancing productivity and efficiency, though all code still undergoes review by Google’s engineers.

“This approach helps our engineers accomplish more at a faster pace,” Pichai said, expressing optimism about the company’s AI advancements. “We’re focused on building great products and excited for the opportunities ahead.”

In February, Business Insider reported that Google launched “Goose,” an internal AI model designed to assist employees in coding and product development. Goose has been trained on Google’s 25 years of engineering knowledge, according to internal documents.

The data shared by Pichai may raise questions among some employees about the role of AI in their jobs. Although leaders have assured employees that AI isn’t replacing them, the 25% figure highlights the growing influence of AI on daily workflows and the benefits of advancing this technology.
