Police Searching for Shooter, No Arrests Made Yet

An 80-year-old man lost his life in a drive-by shooting Wednesday morning in Chicago. Authorities are actively investigating to identify those responsible.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. in the 1400 block of W. 90th St., according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department. The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as James Stroud Sr., was sitting in his car when another vehicle pulled up beside him.

A shooter inside the approaching vehicle opened fire, hitting Stroud multiple times in the head and back. Paramedics rushed him to Christ Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

As of Thursday morning, police reported that no suspects had been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.

Family Shocked by Sudden and Violent Loss

Stroud’s loved ones spoke to local news outlets WGN-TV and WLS-TV, describing him as a kind-hearted man who had recently retired from truck driving.

“He was a wonderful person,” his son, James Stroud Jr., told WLS-TV. “I never thought something like this could happen to him—or to anyone.”

Stroud Jr. last spoke with his father the night before the shooting. The family remains confused about why he was in that location, as he did not live on W. 90th Street. His son told WGN-TV that his father had planned to visit the bank that morning to withdraw money and pay bills.

“I just hope justice is served,” Stroud Jr. said. “My dad was a good man. What happened was cowardly, and if anyone saw anything, I pray they come forward and tell the police.”
